PMM to Break Your Heart but Make You Smile too

As I stated yesterday, life around our house wasn’t the greatest this weekend.  Last Thursday night when my parents got home, our mare, you know the one who is bred to the stud down in Texas I won last year, was sick.  They didn’t know what was wrong with her so dad loaded her up and took her to the vet.  Long story short, it didn’t help so he loaded up her up and hauled her to Oklahoma State University Equine Vet School.  They got there at around 2am on Friday morning, a team of vets/students got her out of the trailer and they  had to perform emergency surgery on her.  Unfortunately it didn’t work and we lost her Friday morning along with the baby.

This was our weekend to have Tbug and we had made plans for her to show on Saturday, so Friday night we had to tell her about Squirty because we didn’t want her walking into the barn Saturday morning, questioning and being upset.  She told her daddy and me that she just wasn’t real emotional and she didn’t cry, then all the way home we heard her sniffling.  That right there is heart breaking.

Saturday was a good day, a bit stressful but a very good day, something my whole family needed.  We got to be a family, together, having fun.

But…. {you knew this was coming, right?}

Sunday we turned the horses out and went to lunch.  When we got back, Tbug, daddy and grandpa were going to go out and ride horses.  I was a couple minutes behind them because I had to change clothes.  When I got out there, Mini Me wasn’t acting right.  Dad said it was the same way Squirty had been acting on Thursday night.

By this time we were all panicking.  Tbug looked at me and said she wished she could go to Memaw’s (hubby’s mom), and I handed her my phone and told her to call Memaw, if she could come get her, cool, otherwise she’d have to wait a bit so one of us could get away to get her there, but Memaw said she’d be right over to get her.

But Tbug walked up to grandpa, put her hand in her pocket and pulled out about $2 in quarters and dimes, looked at grandpa and said, “Here Grandpa, put this toward fixing Mini Me and if that isn’t enough, I’ll try to find you more.”

My dad told us that story as we were back on the road headed to OSU vet school and I just got the chills.  How sweet was that?  Truthfully I can’t take full credit or even partial credit for the way Tbug acts because I’ve only been in her life for 3 years, but I’ll take this kid any day of the week, she’s mine!

Btw, in case you wondered, Mini Me came home yesterday.  Since they’re still not sure the root cause, they treated broadly which could mean this could happen again, but we’ll have to wait and see.
