Pensacola Beach Eats: Red Fish Blue Fish

How many people can say they travel 10 hours or so from home and eat lunch with friends from your area? *raises hand*

So one of our friends is from Florida, not exactly sure where. His girls went to Florida for the summer to spend time with their mother and families down there. He just so happened to be headed down to pick them up around the same time we were headed down for vacation, so it was time for a friends meet up 10 hours away.

We decided to meet up at Red Fish Blue Fish which was right there on Pensacola Beach. I thought it was cool that it looks like the building is made of old shipping containers. Then I went onto the website and found out that the entrance was made of old wooden planks that were from an old Coca Cola warehouse north of Pensacola. Then they verified that the building was in fact re-purposed shipping containers. So there ya have it.

We got there just before they opened at 11am but they had the menu posted on the outside in old windows turned into chalkboards. Very cool in my opinion!

When the waitress came by, she said that one of the features of the restaurant is there weren’t any refrigerators in the place so that meant that all the fish was fresh that day and local. Nothing had been refrigerated.

Our friends ordered oysters. These things looked sooooo slimey but they liked them. That’s all that mattered :). Oh and Kiran said they were good. I’ll definitely have to take your word on that. I think the texture would make me gag.

Our hotel gave us coupons to Red Fish Blue Fish. One of the coupons was for a free kids meal with purchase of adult menu so Abug got Chicken strips with fries. She didn’t care for either, she really wasn’t in the mood to eat so instead we gave them to our friends little boy who is about a year and a half older than Abug.

I had the Yard burger which was a medium well burger with cheese, egg, caramelized onion, and bacon with red yum sauce.

I tried to not be too annoying with taking pictures of food. My MIL got NOLA Fries. Hand cut fries topped with shrimp, andouille sausage, fresh peppers, sautéed onions, cajun spiced tomato sauce and parmesan cheese – garnished with fresh cut green onions.

Hubby went with the half and half basket. 5 Louisiana style fried oysters and 5 Gulf shrimp and hand cut fries tossed in sea salt with cole slaw – served with roasted garlic herb mayo, red yum sauce and cocktail sauce.

Those were all the pictures I took. Like I said, I didn’t want to be annoying and with 9 of us and their 7… that would have been a lot of food to take pictures of.
